Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

Items collected by the Furniture Donation Network service are now on sale at the Recycling Lives store on Kent Street in Preston. Since its opening, the new electronics and furniture shop has seen a staggering number of local people dropping in and grabbing themselves a quality bargain.

The shop sells a range of high quality furniture donated by individuals through Furniture Donation Network

Recycling Lives is a Queen’s Award-winning commercial recycler and social welfare charity with over forty years’ experience in the recycling industry. The success of its commercial operations helps to sustain the Recycling Lives charity, which provides accommodation, education and training to members of society in need. These vulnerable members of society, including long-term unemployed and homeless individuals, are given the skills and confidence they need to return to full-time employment and independent living. Sales from the shop help in raising funds for the charity, which means a purchase there is not only an affordable one – it’s also an ethical one!

Set up by Recycling Lives, Furniture Donation Network is a service that enables individuals to donate their very good or excellent quality furniture to charity. Booking a furniture collection with us is just a few clicks away! Once you’ve booked a collection using our straightforward online service, you can sit back and relax while we do the rest. The Furniture Donation Network team will make the collection on a date and time that suits you. Once we’ve verified that the items are in their stated condition, we will take them off your hands and return the deposit you made upon booking. After a thorough check and clean, donated items are put up for sale at the Recycling Lives shop. So, by donating your furniture through Furniture Donation Network, you can not only help a charity, but you can also help individuals who may not be able to afford brand new furniture.

Recycling Lives set up the Furniture Donation Network service as the second of its Community Dotcoms – schemes that provide a useful, charity-driven service to households, schools and councils across the country. The competitive service of a Community Dotcom is booked via an online hub, which generates business for charities in the customer’s local community. For example, if the Furniture Donation Network team is unable to make a direct furniture collection, we will enlist one of our trusted charity partners to make the collection on our behalf.

The shop has already demonstrated its popularity with Preston locals and sales continue to increase day-by-day, with our range of high quality three-seater sofas and leather armchairs being bestsellers. In addition, the selection of LCD televisions and computer monitors - processed at the Recycling Lives Recycling Plant - have also been flying off the shelves.

Speaking about the new shop, Recycling Lives’ Operations Director Alasdair Jackson said:

“We’ve been astounded by the popularity of our shop on Kent Street. We’re pleased that so many local people have stopped by to purchase some of our high quality items. The huge number of sales we’ve had so far will be a significant help to our charity, so I’d like to say thank you to the local community for showing their support.”
